Winter Storm Watch Through Sunday

Frankfort is now under a Winter Storm Watch from late Friday night through Sunday afternoon. Forecasts are calling for three to seven inches of snow across central Indiana, with periods of heavier snowfall possible throughout the weekend. Clinton County is expected to see fluctuating conditions as temperatures hover near freezing, creating the potential for slick roads even with continuous plowing and treatment.

According to an update from the Frankfort Street Department, officials say crews are fully prepared and will be working around the clock during the storm. They caution, however, that plowing and salt can only do so much when temperatures dip and snow falls in heavier bands. Drivers are urged to give crews plenty of room as they work, use extra caution if they must travel, and continue monitoring weather updates throughout the weekend.

Based on long-term climate data, Frankfort averages roughly 25 inches of snowfall per year, a number that lines up closely with typical totals recorded across central Indiana communities. A single storm delivering three to seven inches represents a sizable portion of an average winter’s accumulation and can have a noticeable impact on roads and travel conditions.

Current conditions in Frankfort show light snow with temperatures around 29 degrees. The forecast calls for windy, cold weather through Thursday and Friday, with highs in the low 30s. Snow is expected to begin late Saturday morning, with models estimating approximately two to four inches initially, though totals could increase if the storm holds together as it moves across the region. Sunday is expected to remain cold with the chance of additional snowfall as the system exits.

City officials emphasize that public safety is their top priority and appreciate the community’s patience as crews work to keep roads clear. Residents are encouraged to limit travel during the storm, watch for icy areas on bridges and shaded roadways, and check frequently for updated advisories as conditions change.
