Rossville School Board Approves Budget, New Programs, and Policy Updates

The Rossville Schools Board of Education convened on September 16, 2025, tackling a full agenda that included budget approvals, policy revisions, personnel changes, and educational opportunities for students and community members.

The board unanimously approved the proposed 2026 school budget, which covers the district’s four main funds: Education, Operations, Debt Service, and Rainy Day. The Education Fund, which supports teacher salaries and classroom expenses, comprises the largest portion of the budget, with 72% allocated to salaries and 19% to benefits. The Operations Fund addresses maintenance, transportation, and technology needs, while the Debt Service Fund continues to pay down construction costs for major facilities, including the gym and fieldhouse. The Rainy Day Fund, set at $185,000, remains available for emergency repairs.

Funding sources include state allocations, local property taxes, and strategic transfers between funds. The budget hearing is scheduled for October 7, 2025, with details posted on the school’s website.

The board approved a Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) request for Alexis Brown, who will be on leave from January to April 2026. Kelly Knox was appointed as a substitute teacher for the district.

Policy updates were also on the agenda, with the board revising the attendance policy to comply with new state statutes, ensuring continued alignment with legislative requirements.

A new American Welding Society (AWS) certification program will be offered this fall at Rossville High School in partnership with Clinton County Adult Education. The seven-week course will provide over 70 hours of instruction and the opportunity for participants to earn industry-recognized credentials.

Superintendent was selected to present at the AASA National Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, in February 2026, highlighting the district’s safety innovations and fostering collaboration with education leaders nationwide.

The board approved the acceptance of three new transfer students and authorized the advertising of the upcoming budget.A surplus white van, previously purchased from government surplus, was declared unsafe due to a rusted frame and is now up for auction. The board emphasized transparency in the disposal process. Students will participate in a variety of field trips, including cemetery cleanups, sweet corn picking, soil judging, and visits to the Indianapolis Zoo and SIA. Choir students will attend the Indiana Music Educators Association Choir Festival. Staff members are scheduled to attend conferences on adult literacy, early learning, AI in education, and student behavior. The next board meeting is set for October 7, 2025, at 7 p.m., where the public will have the opportunity to comment on the proposed budget.
