Proposed Data Center Rezoning Heads To Public Hearing In Clinton County

A major rezoning request that could pave the way for a new data center in Clinton County is heading to a public hearing next month.

LogiX Realty LLC has asked the Clinton County Area Plan Commission to rezone 152.92 acres of farmland from A-1 Agricultural to I-1 Light Industrial. The site, if approved, would be developed into a large-scale data center — a type of facility increasingly in demand across Indiana and the Midwest as technology companies expand their digital infrastructure.

The commission will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, at 6 p.m. EST in the Clinton County Courthouse in Frankfort. Residents will have the chance to voice their opinions before the commission issues its recommendation.

Growing Debate Over Data Centers

Indiana has become a hot spot for data center proposals in recent years. Nearby Boone County is already seeing construction of Meta’s massive “Project Domino” facility in Lebanon. Similar projects have also been floated in White County and Kosciusko County, where local officials and residents have raised concerns over land use, infrastructure strain, and environmental impact.

Supporters argue that data centers bring significant tax revenue, infrastructure investment, and the potential for spin-off jobs in construction, maintenance, and technology services.

Projects like these can mean millions of dollars in new tax base for our county, which helps fund schools, roads, and emergency services. Normally, this would be a big reason if elected officials were to vote in favor of a project of this scope and magnitude.

However, critics often question whether the long-term employment benefits match the scale of land use and utility demand.

“Once construction is finished, these facilities don’t employ nearly as many people as factories or warehouses,” said a resident who farms near the proposed site and wished to remain anonymous. “We’re giving up prime farmland that feeds families, and the tradeoff just doesn’t add up.”

Clinton County at a Crossroads

If approved, the Clinton County site would represent one of the largest rezoning shifts in recent years. The land currently sits in agricultural production, and a change to light industrial zoning would mark a major transition for the area.

“Any time you take land out of agricultural use, it changes the community’s identity,” said a Clinton County elected official who spoke with KNS Radio News on the condition of anonymity. “The question is whether the benefits outweigh the costs.”

Next Steps

Following the Sept. 2 hearing, the Area Plan Commission will forward its recommendation to county leaders, who will make the final decision on the rezoning request.

The public is encouraged to attend and participate in the hearing. For more details, residents can contact the Clinton County Area Plan Commission at (765) 659-6302
