INDOT Announces Upcoming Road Updates For U.S. 421

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced new road closures on U.S. 421 as part of an ongoing project to replace small structures in Boone County.

Crews are currently finishing the replacement of the structure over McCoy Ditch, located about three-quarters of a mile south of State Road 47. That section is expected to reopen to traffic by September 17, 2025.

The following day, September 18, INDOT will close U.S. 421 again, this time at a site just north of State Road 32, near the roundabout at Eagle Creek. The closure is expected to last about 45 days, with traffic detoured along the same routes used during previous closures.

Pre-warning signs for the new closure will be installed on September 3.

The work is part of Contract R-43416, which includes four small structure replacements across Boone County. INDOT reports that the SR 267 and SR 47 projects are complete, with only minor work remaining. The U.S. 421 sites south of SR 47 and north of SR 32 are the final structures scheduled under the contract.

Town officials in Kirklin said they will continue to share updates as the work progresses, noting that the closures may affect commuters, shoppers, and local traffic in the area.
