The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has unveiled plans for a major realignment and expansion of State Road 32 in Boone County. The project will impact a more than four-mile stretch of the roadway in Lebanon, beginning at County Road 500 West (CR 500 W) and extending southeast to the intersection at Garrofolo Boulevard.
The current roadway configuration features two 12-foot travel lanes, one eastbound and one westbound, with 3-foot-wide shoulders. Under the proposed project, S.R. 32 will be realigned and widened between CR 500 W and County Road 250 West (CR 250 W). Additionally, INDOT plans to expand the existing roadway from CR 250 W east to just past Westgate Boulevard.
East of CR 250 W, S.R. 32 will be widened to four travel lanes, matching the existing configuration closer to Interstate 65. The project also includes the anticipated construction of pedestrian facilities along the corridor.
This infrastructure upgrade comes as Boone County prepares for substantial growth tied to the new LEAP Lebanon Innovation District—a 9,000-acre planned innovation and research hub. Officials expect the development to be a significant generator of traffic on both sides of S.R. 32, making the new corridor essential for future residential and commercial expansion.
