FFD Hosting Advanced Rope Rescue Training

The Frankfort Fire Department will host a weeklong Operations and Technician Level Rope Rescue Course this fall, offering advanced training for emergency responders.

The program, led by High Line Rescue Senior Instructor Mark Phillips, runs October 13–17, 2025, at the Frankfort Fire Department headquarters, 201 S. Clay Street. Phillips has been teaching rope rescue courses since 1999.

The 40-hour course will begin with classroom instruction on equipment, knots, and safety, before moving into hands-on training. Practical exercises will cover anchoring, belaying, mechanical advantage systems, lowering systems, and stokes basket rescues. Both low- and high-angle scenarios, along with high line evolutions, are planned.

The course meets NFPA 2500 standards for Technician Level Training and includes evaluation of practical skills by a certified lead evaluator.

Enrollment is open now. Tuition is $695 if paid by September 12 and $745 after that date. Students must provide their own helmets, boots, gloves, and personal gear, though High Line Rescue will supply equipment, including harnesses if needed.
