City of Frankfort Invites Your Input on New Comprehensive Plan

The City of Frankfort is taking a major step toward shaping its future by applying for the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Planning Grant. If awarded, the funding will support the creation of a new comprehensive plan that will guide growth, infrastructure improvements, and community development initiatives for years to come.

Frankfort’s last comprehensive plan was completed several years ago, and city officials say it’s time for an update. With recent changes in population growth, housing demand, and infrastructure needs, a new plan will ensure the city is positioned to meet challenges head-on and capitalize on new opportunities.

As part of the grant process, city leaders are seeking input from residents, business owners, and other stakeholders. A comprehensive plan binder containing preliminary information is available for public review at the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office in Old Stoney City Hall, 301 East Clinton Street, during normal business hours.

In addition to the binder, a community-wide survey will be released in the coming weeks. The survey will ask residents to identify community strengths, weaknesses, and priorities for the future, such as downtown development, neighborhood revitalization, housing, parks, and public safety.

A public hearing is scheduled for Monday, November 10, at 7:00 p.m. during the regular City Council meeting. This hearing will give you an opportunity to ask questions and offer additional feedback on the comprehensive planning process and the city’s grant application.

City officials emphasize that the new plan will be built with transparency and collaboration at its core. If awarded, the CDBG Planning Grant will allow Frankfort to access state funding for planning efforts, reducing the burden on local taxpayers while enabling the city to pursue ambitious, big-picture improvements.

The CDBG Planning Grant is a competitive program that helps Indiana communities fund planning efforts for comprehensive plans, downtown revitalization strategies, and other initiatives designed to promote sustainable growth.
