WIC, Welfare. Social Security Disability, EBT, Snap. Section 8, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security seem to be in the news a lot lately, especially because of the government shutdown. I am not an expert in any of these subjects and can’t seem to find many who are. Yes, I know I can google it but I trust that as much as I trust a politician.
By just what I’m observing each one of afore mentioned subsidiaries are all government funded except Social Security. That is the reason that the seniors still got paid even though there was a shutdown. Social Security is directly deducted as a separate item, and the others seem to be deducted under the heading of taxable income. My wife and I have both contributed to all these funds by being employed for over 50 years each in our lifetime. Not only do we receive Social Security checks, we also both have earned pensions. Living solely on Social Security can be difficult.
Recipients typically receive an annual cost-of-living increase once they qualify. When signing up for Social Security then you need to add an extra insurance part to your social security that helps with what social security medicare does not cover. This is paid for by us. So not only are you paying for supplemental insurance, they are still taking taxes out of your social security checks. The cost of living you receive generally does not cover the increase in the cost of supplemental insurance. So really it is not close to being a cost of living raise.
Recently my wife had a stroke and had to not only be hospitalized but was sent to a rehab hospital for further therapy treatments. After being released from the rehab hospital we chose to remain with an outpatient service provided by that company, the Lafayette Reginal Rehab hospital mainly because of the excellent care we received. We also thought by going in for rehab it would be cheaper than having home Therapy. Now after a little over a month of rehab, we received a notice that the insurance part we added to our social security no longer pays for further treatment. The hospital is trying to fight for us but at this time we will not be receiving any more rehab.
I have many friends, relatives, and even neighbors receiving, many of the governmental other commodities, and it seems they have no limit on medical procedures, medical cost, doctor visits or cost to them. They seem to get all their extra needs to sustain a decent lifestyle at no cost, yet I needed a ramp built on to my house just to get my wife inside the house, a new shower to allow her to step into, plus some of the other medical supplies that will come out of our lifelong savings. If you have a disability you can get a caretaker paid for by the government, this caretaker can be anyone trained or not. They can even be family members who has a full-time job and the still get paid to be a caretaker. I know this sounds bad but if my wife had to have a stroke, I wish she’d had it before we qualified for social security. We would have received more help from the government! It is a damn shame that the working class has had to battle insurance for all their careers and then as seniors be denied by a government that they have supported and funded for years. It is time to strengthen the rules and requirements for these handouts. Too many that can work are not working. A thirty-hour job at minimum wage does not support a family, there are 168 hours in a week and what you do with them to survive is up to the individual. Another thought is that the word single parent should only be used when the other parent is dead. The government shutdown was supposedly because of money for health and living expenses for NON-CITIZENS. This is a slap in the face to every working citizen of our great country. We bust our butts and then our leaders turn a blank face to us. I am shocked to see that we feed, house, and clothes our criminals but we have to pay for our kids to eat at school, I have discovered that we are not allowed to receive disability, get food stamps, and actually receive the level of help these other groups get because we finally were able to receive our social security relief. If only we could get the health care benefits our congress members get.
It totally floors me when I watch these people rioting for God only knows what and for hating this great country of ours.
I’m sure I am making people upset with my beliefs, but people need to stand up for what is right, AMEN.
