The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) says U.S. 421 will fully reopen Wednesday, September 17, 2025, after the completion of a small structure replacement project over McCoy Ditch. The site is located 0.76 miles south of State Road 47. Crews plan to have the road open to traffic by 5:00 p.m., though intermittent construction activity may continue in the area. Drivers are urged to use caution and watch for workers and equipment.
The next phase of work begins the following day. On Thursday, September 18, 2025, INDOT will close U.S. 421 approximately 0.2 miles north of SR 32 to replace a 60-inch pipe. The closure will start at 7:00 a.m. and will block traffic heading north from the SR 32 roundabout.
An official detour will send drivers west on SR 47 to SR 39, south on SR 39 to SR 32 in Lebanon, then east on SR 32 back to U.S. 421 at the roundabout.
This work is part of a larger contract covering four small structure replacements in Boone County. The three other project locations — U.S. 421 south of SR 47, SR 47, and SR 267 — are all open to traffic, though drivers may encounter occasional flagging operations. INDOT does not anticipate full closures at these sites.
