Clinton County EMS Crew Celebrates Patient’s Birthday

Clinton County EMS is celebrating a remarkable story of survival after a local resident suffered a sudden cardiac arrest earlier this year — and is now thriving, thanks to quick action by emergency crews.

According to a post on the agency’s Facebook page, EMS crews responded rapidly and discovered the patient in ventricular fibrillation, a life-threatening heart rhythm. Using advanced Zoll X Series monitors, the team delivered immediate defibrillation and high-quality resuscitative care, including administering antiarrhythmics. Their efforts successfully restored the patient’s heartbeat before transport, and the crew continued working to stabilize her condition en route to the hospital.

Lead Paramedic Josh Halstead, Shift Supervisor Reid Cripe, EMT Chase Kieselbach, and EMT Lily Boles were recognized for their efforts by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and Zoll Medical.

Last month, Clinton County EMS marked the occasion with a special reunion, joining the patient, her family, and friends to celebrate her birthday. Members of Frankfort Fire Department and Clinton County Central Dispatch also participated in the celebration, which included singing “Happy Birthday” and reflecting on the life-saving teamwork that made the day possible.

“To see a patient not only survive but thrive, and to celebrate her birthday with her and her loved ones, is the greatest reward we could ask for,” Clinton County EMS said in the post.

The agency also used the opportunity to stress the importance of early recognition, rapid 911 activation, bystander CPR, and timely defibrillation as key factors in improving survival rates for cardiac arrest.

The post notes that the announcement was delayed to allow time for the crew to be formally recognized for their outstanding work.
