Boone County’s rapid population growth is set to meet a major new resource for healthcare access. Parkview Health announced this week that it will invest $150 million in a new hospital and medical office complex in Lebanon, bringing advanced care, jobs, and expanded services to one of Indiana’s fastest-growing counties.
The project will anchor Hickory Junction, a 350-acre mixed-use development on the east side of Lebanon near Interstate 65 and State Road 39. Hickory Junction already includes The Farmers Bank Fieldhouse, a large indoor sports and community facility, and is preparing to add Parkview Sports Medicine. With the hospital, the development will grow beyond recreation and commerce to include a major healthcare hub.
Details of the Facility
The hospital will span 108,000 square feet and house 30 inpatient beds. Plans call for a round-the-clock emergency department, surgical suites, imaging services, and specialty care programs ranging from cardiology to orthopedics.
Alongside it, a 30,000-square-foot medical office building will provide primary care practices, outpatient diagnostics, and a shared employer clinic—designed to make healthcare more accessible for local businesses and their employees.
Meeting a Growing Need
Dr. Greg Johnson, Parkview Health’s chief physician executive of growth markets, said the Lebanon hospital is being built in response to Boone County’s growth and demand for local services.
“Boone County is growing quickly, and the availability of high-quality healthcare is essential to supporting its long-term growth,” Johnson said. “We want to ensure families in Lebanon and the surrounding area can access advanced care close to home.”
Boone County’s population has surged in recent years, with families drawn by proximity to Indianapolis, available land, and new housing developments. That growth has strained existing healthcare systems, with many residents traveling to Indianapolis, Zionsville, or Lafayette for specialty care.
The addition of a full-service hospital in Lebanon is expected to reduce that need and give residents faster access to emergency and specialty treatment.
Local Impact
Lebanon Mayor Matt Gentry called the project a “milestone” for the city and county.
“This investment will bring expanded healthcare access and new options for residents throughout Boone County,” Gentry said. “It also reinforces Lebanon’s position as a community that can offer the services and amenities that families and businesses are looking for.”
Once completed, the hospital and medical office complex are expected to create more than 200 healthcare jobs, ranging from nurses and physicians to technicians and administrative staff. Local leaders say the jobs, combined with the project’s proximity to Hickory Junction’s sports and retail amenities, will make Lebanon an even more attractive place to live and work.
Broader Strategy
The Lebanon project is part of Parkview Health’s wider expansion across Indiana. The Fort Wayne-based health system recently opened a hospital in Logansport, announced two new facilities in Marion, and plans to break ground on a hospital in West Lafayette.
For Parkview, the move into Lebanon marks another step in building a statewide network of community hospitals designed to bring advanced care closer to smaller and mid-sized communities.
Looking Ahead
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, with the hospital slated to open in the summer of 2028.
In the meantime, Hickory Junction continues to develop as a major destination. With sports facilities, future retail and dining spaces, and now a hospital in the works, the district is expected to play a central role in shaping Boone County’s growth trajectory.
For residents like lifelong Boone County families and new arrivals alike, the project represents more than just a new building—it’s a sign of Lebanon’s transformation into a regional center where healthcare, recreation, and economic growth intersect.
