New Docuseries Revisits Delphi Murders, Featuring Features Many Related Families

A new docuseries from ABC News Studios is casting fresh national attention on one of Indiana’s most haunting and high-profile criminal cases: the 2017 murders of Abigail “Abby” Williams and Liberty “Libby” German in the small town of Delphi.

The three-part series, titled “Capturing Their Killer: The Girls on the High Bridge,” premieres August 5 on Hulu. It dives deep into the tragedy that stunned the rural community — just 20 miles northeast of Lafayette — and captured global headlines for years.

The series includes interviews with the girls’ families, law enforcement investigators, and Ron Wilkins, a journalist with the Journal & Courier who covered the case extensively. In a major development, the docuseries also features the first in-depth interview with Kathy Allen, wife of convicted killer Richard Allen.

“I want true justice for Abby and Libby,” Kathy Allen says in the series trailer. “But it should not be at the expense of an innocent person.”

Abby and Libby were just 13 and 14 years old when they disappeared while hiking the Monon High Bridge trail on February 13, 2017. Their bodies were discovered the next day in a wooded area nearby, sparking a years-long investigation filled with heartbreak, mystery, and twists.

In 2022, Richard Allen — a Delphi resident and CVS pharmacy worker — was arrested and later charged with their murders. In 2024, a jury convicted Allen of two counts of murder and two counts of murder during kidnapping. He was sentenced to 130 years in prison by Special Judge Frances Gull. Allen is currently appealing his conviction and sentence and was recently transferred to a prison in Oklahoma.

The case remains a lightning rod for speculation and legal controversy. Allen has claimed that he was framed, suggesting the girls were actually killed by members of a fringe religious group. Prosecutors, however, built their case around a now-infamous 43-second video shot by Libby shortly before the girls were taken. In it, a man — referred to by investigators as “Bridge Guy” — is seen walking behind them on the high bridge and saying the now-chilling words: “Go down the hill.”

“We know this ‘Bridge Guy’ took the girls,” said Becky Patty, Libby’s grandmother, in the docuseries. “And they proved Richard Allen was ‘Bridge Guy.’”

The ABC News docuseries is expected to generate renewed debate and attention around a case that has forever changed the town of Delphi — and remains etched into the hearts of Hoosiers across the state.
